THE NORDIC AND SPAIN. AN ARCHITECTURAL JOURNEY
This is the story of a journey, a journey that contains multiple journeys within it. These journeys are defined by physical movements between one place and another, but also by mental, intellectual, or even emotional movements. The material contained in this book follows the path delineated by a representative group of practising architects that exemplify what decades of interpretation and re-elaboration of the stimuli coming from Nordic architecture have meant in Spain. They are: Linazasoro & Sánchez, Nieto Sobejano, Paredes Pedrosa, Javier García Solera, Luis Martínez Santa-María, Tabuenca & Leache, BAAS, Harquitectes, TEd’A arquitectes, Aulets and Carles Oliver. Their production stands out among the best of Spanish architecture over the last two decades, while maintaining a certain sense of continuity with the work of previous generations.
The merit and value we give to these architects not only apply to their projects or the most recent Spanish architecture. They signify a collective endeavour that started several decades ago, when people like Erik Gunnar Asplund, Miguel Fisac, Jørn Utzon or Rafael Moneo planted the seeds in their trips to learn from other cultures. This effort is continued today by many, embarking on a shared journey to follow the marks left by their predecessors. The book reproduces some of the most recent imprints of the path between the Nordic and Spain, observing and demarcating them very closely, without adding any unessential gesture. Instead of leaving more traces, we concentrated on deepening those already existing, quietly leaving our footsteps in the footprints.
